Adoption process explained

Thank you for wanting to adopt a rescued dog!
Our Rescue is very small and runned/operated by only volunters that have also full time jobs and families and dedicate their free time and personal resources to rescue animals in need.
We are located in Houston, TX and our dogs travel once a family wants to offer them the opportunity of a foster to adopt home.

When one of our dogs travels to a new home it is foster to adopt. We usually wait 2 to 3 weeks before we finalize the adoption contract. We want to make sure the dog is happy and the new family is too!
We use a professional ground transport, which runs every 2 weeks to take our dogs to their new homes.

Rocio’s Rescues works very hard to make perfect matches between families and rescue dogs. This application is the first step in that process. After we receive your completed application, we will schedule a phone call with you to make sure that we help you find your perfect dog companion. We do not adopt our dogs on a first come, first served basis. Each application is carefully considered to create a match which best suits the dog’s physical and emotional needs with the applicant’s home.

Rocio’s Rescue mission is to pull shelter dogs who are at imminent risk of being killed, strays and owner surrenders. We expend whatever funds necessary to provide veterinary care to bring the dogs back to great health, and our $350 adoption donation covers only a portion of the costs in that journey from shelter or stray dog to a happy forever home. This donation covers spay/neuter, microchip, all vaccinations, board, quality food, flea/tick and HeartWorm prevention, HeartWorm treatment or any other treatments each dogs needs to be ready for adoption.

The transport cost (ground) to the Northeast and Northwest costs $165-185 depending on which company provide transport, a health certificate needed for all animals to travel is $50 to $70.00 depending on the transport requirements. These costs are non-refundable.

Our dogs are evaluated to the best abilities of our vets and volunteers, but please be aware that you are bringing in a rescued dog and that there is an adjustment period of four to six weeks for a dog to feel stable in his/her new home.

Please be fully committed to the training, energy and love that it will take for your dog to settle in to your home. Most of our dogs are picked up by their new families on the day of transport. This is why we work very hard with you to make the best match and to create a successful bond from the start.

Five out of seven dogs are re-homed in their lifetime. Rocio’s Rescues wants to change this model for the lucky few we save, finding LOVING, COMMITTED FOREVER HOMES.
